Our FPL Team Spotlight for Gameweek 2 are the Citizens. Manchester City, the defending Champions have hit the ground running and after convincingly beating Chelsea 2-0 in the Community Shield, they beat Arsenal in their own backyard with a similar scoreline. City this season look stronger than ever and with the summer acquisition of Riyad Mahrez coming in from Leicester City, they have further added depth to their squad.
Pep Guardiola’s side scored the most number of goals in the 17/18 league season and also set an all time record, scoring an outstanding 106 goals.
As per City standards, these are fairly easy fixtures and one must expect them to pick up maximum points from these fixtures. A trip away to Wolves in GW3 might be a tricky test for the Manchester side, as Nuno’s men put in a spirited performance against Everton which saw the match end in a 2-2 draw. Apart from Wolves, no team really looks like troubling the Man City backline in the next 6 Premier League fixtures. One can expect City to score a lot of goals in these matches given their firepower and the quality that they possess.
PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR
B.Mendy (£6.1m) – Defender
The French left back missed the majority of the 17/18 season with Man City due to an injury. Yet, he recovered just in time to feature in a few matches to collect the winner’s medal. Mendy assisted twice in the game against Arsenal & picked up a clean sheet as well. Picking up a total of 15 points from GW1, the full back is far more threatening attack wise as compared to other City defenders.
B.Silva (£7.5m) – Midfielder
After City’s match against Chelsea in the Community Shield, City boss Pep Guardiola said:“Right now, it is Bernardo and 10 others”.
The Portuguese has impressed in the pre season for City & even scored a goal against Arsenal at the Emirates, fetching him a total of 8 FPL points.
PLAYERS TO AVOID
Fernandinho (£5.5m) – Midfielder
The Brazilian is City’s deepest midfielder usually & does not possess an attacking threat as such. Hence his inclusion into your FPL team might not be a nice idea even though he starts most of the games for City.
Leroy Sane (£9.5m) – Midfielder
After being dropped out of Germany’s 23 man squad for the World Cup, the winger got another setback as Mahrez signed for Man City. The 22 year old was dropped out of the starting XI in City’s Premier League opening match and with both wingers (Sterling & Mahrez) impressing in the season opener, at this point of time, Sane’s spot in the starting XI is uncertain.
