FPL 2018/19: Five Premium Defenders to watch out for this season

Picking Premium Defenders in your FPL squad is always a tough task. It’s important to pick the right set of players to ensure you spend your FPL budget in the right direction. In this article, we look at 5 Premium Defenders to watch out for in the 2018/19 FPL season.


  1. Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.5m – Chelsea)

Cesar Azpilicueta played the majority of last season as a centre-back yet he ended up with 2 goals & 6 assists. Under new manager Maurizio Sarri, the Spaniard will most likely play as a right-back in a back four this time around. With 175 points in the last FPL season, Azpilicueta was the top scoring defender. All eyes will be on him again as a new season commences on 9th August.


  1. Kyle Walker (£6.5m – Manchester City)

The Ex-Tottenham man had a decent World Cup in Russia & enjoyed a splendid season with his new club Manchester City. Walker assisted 6 times in the league last season and play a great role in keeping 15 clean sheets. The right-back has a good assist potential as he offers a lot going forward.


  1. Ben Davies (£6.0m – Tottenham Hotspur)

The Welsh left-back was arguably one of the best left backs in the league last season as he scored twice and assisted on seven occasions as Spurs kept 12 clean sheets during the 17/18 season. Davies has established himself as an FPL asset & would surely be included in a lot of FPL teams.

  1. Ashley Young (£6.5m – Manchester United)

The veteran winger turned full-back plays on the left flank for the United side. Young was crucial for United throughout the last season as he scored 2 goals & assisted 6 times. He also kept 9 clean sheets in the 17/18 season. Young has been known for his tremendous work rate and has established himself as an important part of the United back 4.


  1. Andrew Robertson (£6.0m – Liverpool)

The young Liverpool fullback was a bargain buy for Liverpool in the summer transfer window of 2017. Robertson enjoyed a great season with the Reds in the league where he fixed a starting XI spot over James Milner. He assisted 5 times and scored on one occasion. Robertson kept 10 clean sheets and accumulated a total of 111 points.
