Picking the right premium midfield options is the bedrock of every FPL season. Midfield heavy hitters led by Mohamed Salah filled up 5 of the top 6 points scorers last season. In this article, we assess 5 premium midfield options that have the potential to make or break your 2018/19 FPL campaign.
Mo Salah (£13.0m – Liverpool)
The Egyptian King was last year’s top scorer in FPL after he scored a record-breaking 32 goals for Liverpool. On top of that, Salah assisted 12 times as well. After an early exit at the World Cup, the pacey winger has enjoyed a great preseason with the Merseyside club. Salah would love to break his own record that he set in the last year given that he has a better midfield behind him this time around. At £13.0 m, Salah is the most expensive midfielder this season. The Egyptian’s playing style fits in well at Liverpool. Mo Salah will no doubt be picked by more than 50% of the FPL managers given that he’ll return points every now & then.

Eden Hazard (£10.5m – Chelsea)
The Chelsea winger has enjoyed a great World Cup with Belgium as they finished 3rd in Russia 2018. Hazard scored 12 goals and assisted 6 times last season. The Belgian will be roaring to go again this time around. With the appointment of new manager Maurizio Sarri, someone who is known for his attacking football, Eden Hazard can be the big surprise package for this season.
Leroy Sane (£9.5m – Manchester City)
Sane is well rested after he was dropped from the German 23 man squad for the World Cup. The winger enjoyed a successful season with Man City where he contributed to 10 goals & 15 assists.
With Mahrez’s arrival, Sane is a guaranteed starter for City on the left flank as Sterling will have to compete with the Algerian for a place on the right side of City’s attack. He’ll be fresh after an impressive pre-season with the Citizens. Sane will be crucial for City’s title defence & if they are to win it again, the German will have to replicate his form from last season.
Christian Eriksen (£9.5m – Tottenham Hotspurs)
The Dane is the creator in chief for Spurs. £9.5 m is a great price for Eriksen. He racked up 11 goals & 10 assists for the North London side. Eriksen is on set piece duty for Spurs which allows him to chip in with an assist at any point of time. Eriksen’s passing ability is second to none with the Dane being often referred to as the one of the best No. 10s in the Premier League right now.
Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m – Manchester City)
The Belgian was superb throughout last season for City in the middle of the park. At £10.0m, De Bruyne looks to be a bargain for FPL managers who are looking for premium midfield options. A caveat though – The Belgian is expected to miss the first 2 gameweeks of the FPL season after going deep in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The midfielder scored 8 goals & assisted an impressive 18 times in the Premier League last time around.
