Cardiff City – The Bluebirds are back in the top tier of English football after getting relegated in the 13/14 season. Cardiff won a total of 90 points to secure their promotion under manager Neil Warnock. They scored 67 goals & conceded only 39, as they kept the most number of clean sheets in the Championship last season. In the first five opening fixtures, Cardiff take on Bournemouth (A), Newcastle (H), Huddersfield (A), Arsenal (H) and Chelsea (A).
We list out five Cardiff City assets who you should keep your eye on this season ahead of the 2018/19 FPL campaign.
1. Neil Etheridge (£4.5m – Goalkeeper)
The Philippines goalkeeper averaged 2.09 saves per game. Keeping 17 clean sheets in the Championship last season. There will be immense pressure on Etheridge to do well for the club as his average per goals conceded was 0.86
2. Kenneth Zohore (£5.0m – Forward)
Scoring 9 goals from 34 appearances the forward had a shot accuracy of 53%. Zohore is known for his physical presence in the box. His holdup play is one of his biggest strengths as he made 5 assists during their last campaign and made 25 key passes. Zohore is a great option up front in your FPL team if you like to play with 3 strikers up front.
3. Junior Hoilett (£5.5m – Midfielder)
The winger scored 9 goals in 44 appearances for the club making 71 key passes & assisting his teammates 11 times during Cardiff’s successful season in the Championship. Hoilett going forward is a big threat & can attack well from either flank. His 5.5m price tag is good enough if you want a 4th or 5th choice midfielder who can rack up assists & score as well.
4. Sean Morrison (£5.0m – Defender)
Morrison is Cardiff’s captain & is a true leader from the back. The tall centre-back scored 5 goals from set pieces. Morrison has the potential to become the new ‘Dunk’ for FPL managers with his goal-scoring prowess.
5. Joe Ralls (£5.0m – Midfielder)
He is Cardiff’s creator in chief. Ralls is on set piece duty for the Bluebirds, as he scored 7 goals & assisted 3 times even though he made 57 key passes. Ralls is also the first choice spot-kick taker as he scored four times from the spot. He started more games than any other midfielder which makes him a certain started for Cardiff.
The away trips to Bournemouth & Huddersfield can see the keeper (Etheridge) & defender (Morisson) rack up a clean sheet or two given how solid Cardiff’s defence was in the Championship last term. Home match against Arsenal & another tough away trip to Stamford Bridge can see Etheridge rack up save points during these fixtures hence being the more favourable pick out of these two.
On the other hand, Ralls will be crucial in the middle of the park for the Welsh side. His set pieces & creativity will be crucial if Cardiff are to get a result at the start of the season. Hoilett can be a good punt pick if you want to field an extra midfielder.
