Left-handed batsman Devon Smith earned a Test recall ahead of the Sri Lankan series after a three-year long hiatus. His comeback came after an incredible performance in the Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament.
Another major inclusion was that of uncapped 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Jahmar Hamilton who impressed in the ‘A’ series against England Lions. In a controversial decision, Denesh Ramdin and Evin Lewis have been dropped.
Squad: Jason Holder (capt), Devendra Bishoo, Devon Smith, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kieran Powell, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Jahmar Hamilton (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Kemar Roach
Sri Lanka Team News
Dhananjaya de Silva who had initially pulled out of the tour owing to his father’s murder, has returned, but didn’t feature in the warm-up match. It remains to be seen if he plays the opener following a jaded journey so far.
The tour game ahead of the first Test seems to have benefited the visitors with skipper Dinesh Chandimal scoring a big hundred and the bowlers too got a bit of exposure of West Indian tracks.
Although veteran spinner Rangana Herath missed the warm up, he is expected to be a vital cog in the wheel for Sri Lanka in entire series.
Squad: Dinesh Chandimal(c), Mahela Udawatte, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Roshen Silva, Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, Rangana Herath, Dilruwan Perera, Akila Dananjaya, Jeffrey Vandersay, Lahiru Gamage, Kasun Rajitha, Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, Dhananjaya de Silva
Top Funtasy Picks
Windies: Jason Holder / Kemar Roach – The Windies skipper comes up with great all-round credentials despite the constant downfall of his team, while Kemar Roach’s ability to generate decent pace and bounce makes him a top pick.
Sri Lanka: Dinesh Chandimal / Akila Danajaya – Skipper Chandimal showed his supreme form in the tour game, while Danajaya could prove lethal with his quirky leggies on any track.
Punt Pick: Rangana Herath / Dhananjaya de Silva – Herath might have missed the warm up fixture, but is likely to be included in the scheme of things in the Test series. On the other hand, Dhananjaya after some power packed batting display lately could be drafted into the playing XI.
