The penultimate gameweek of the season presents us with a treat, as 12 of the 20 teams are involved in a double gameweek, and plenty of points are on the way. Not only do FPL managers need to stock up on players from these teams, but also placing our gambles on some inconspicuous picks can make a large difference in our points tally and, more importantly, the league rankings. Follow Your Sport offers you 3 Hidden Gems to choose for your FPL teams.
1) Aaron Cresswell
Fixtures: Leicester City (A), Manchester United (H)
West Ham have somewhat been in shambles in recent times, with thumping defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City bringing their confidence down. But there have been bright moments too, and one player who has been involved in all the good bits for West Ham is the English fullback. He’s loved to venture forward and get involved, and a Payet-esque goal against City last week showed what he can be capable of when in good form. He’s notched up 3 assists and a goal in the last 9 games and collected 32 points in the same duration.
Presented with a break between some tough fixtures in the form of Leicester City who are struggling themselves, before welcoming Manchester United at the Olympic Stadium, where Cresswell tends to gather more points, this double gameweek can promise some much-needed points from the defence point of view. He has the potential to big this gameweek.
2) Jan Bednarek
Fixtures: Everton (A), Swansea (A)
Not the most popular name in the squad, but boy did he make a good impression on manager Mark Hughes on his first start for the club, scoring against giants Chelsea in the absence of the suspended Jack Stephens. This level of performance followed in the next 2 games as well, as he helped his side keep a clean sheet against Leicester City, and was a tough cookie against Bournemouth too. Considering that space for big names will be prioritized due to most top sides being involved in a double gameweek, cut-price options become very important too to accommodate big names, and polish defender Bednarek is an appreciable option considering he has become a regular starter with a price tag of just 4.1m and has collected 14 points in just the 3 games he’s played in. One to look out for!
3) Andre Ayew
Fixtures: Bournemouth (A), Southampton (H)
Just a 1% ownership attached to this once-popular FPL player, Ayew is a midfielder with great potential and is one of the top players Swansea have. With relegation looming over the Welsh club, fixtures against leaky sides Bournemouth and Southampton will be a good opportunity for the elder Ayew to make an impact and rack up on some points. The last time Swansea impressed on the offensive front was during their 4-1 win against West Ham, with Ayew registering 2 assists. Considering if Swansea play well, Ayew has a great chance of performing well too, and vice versa.
