Kolkata Knight Riders Team News
Although the Kolkata-based franchise looks unconvincing on paper sans Gautam Gambhir and Mitchell Starc, the young force stocked up in the team could be a blessing in disguise this season.
Besides Starc’s injury scar, the other overseas players Chris Lynn and Mitchell Johnson have been deemed fit ahead of the gruelling season. The Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine who had been reported for suspect bowling action during the PSL, will be tested for his bowling action before the game at Chennai centre.
KKR’s top order is well-balanced with the explosive batsman Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa taking the charge early on. Young Shubman Gill could be a back up option, but it will be surprising if he makes it to the eleven against RCB. Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik, Ishank Jaggi and Sunil Narine are likely to supplement the middle order fairly.
The bowling segment will most likely witness Mitchell Johnson sharing the new ball with either Vinay Kumar or any of the two young fast bowlers Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi. Tom Curran who has been signed as Starc’s replacement might not make the cut for the opener. Andre Russell is the other seamer who could produce a complete bowling spell. If cleared, Sunil Narine will be acing the spin bowling alongside wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Royal Challengers Team News
Skipper Virat Kohli believes RCB has got a level-headed ammunition this season to win their maiden IPL title. Rightly so, the franchise projects a perfect blend of seasoned players, unlike the previous few editions where they relied on a heavy batting line up.
While Brendon McCullum is sure-short opening choice, the other opening slot is likely to be occupied by either Quinton De Kock or Parthiv Patel. Furthermore, RCB’s rock-solid middle order will be studded with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sarfraz Khan, Chirs Woakes and Washington Sundar. Kohli will unlikely sacrifice the spot of Woakes for Corey Anderson or Colin De Grandhomme as the English seamer perturbed the RCB batsmen on quite a few occasions playing for KKR last season.
New Zealand pace-spearhead Tim Southee is expected to start the proceedings against KKR alongside either Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Siraj. Chris Woakes could well serve as the fourth seamer, duly complimenting the spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar later on.
Brendon McCullum, Parthiv Patel (WK), Virat Kohli (C), AB De Villiers, Sarfraz Khan, Chris Woakes, Washington Sundar, Tim Southee, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Siraj
