The Fantasy Premier League moves on to its instalment number 29 for the season and as usual, we have come up with a five-man list of possible captain picks – featuring three new alternatives from the previous gameweek.
ROMELU LUKAKU (vs CRYSTAL PALACE) [A]
The Belgian has certainly thrown his hat into the ring after making a surprise match-winning contribution of a goal and an assist versus Chelsea last time out. In the process, Lukaku registered a double-digit haul for the first time since Gameweek 5 when he produced a similar output against another of his former employers, Everton. Crystal Palace is the next stop for the Red Devils against whom Lukaku has netted 5 times in his nine league appearances to date – including once in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

The injury-ravaged Eagles have been struggling to keep cleansheets of late, conceding 10 goals in last five league outings besides boasting the joint fifth-worst defensive record in the competition. The match offers a great opportunity indeed for the Manchester United striker to build on his stellar display as well his FPL points tally.
MOHAMED SALAH (vs NEWCASTLE UNITED) [H]
It was just another normal day in the life of Mo Salah and his FPL owners as the Egyptian once again produced a double-digit haul against the Hammers. Now Liverpool’s attention turn towards hosting Newcastle United this gameweek in a match that features an emotional reunion of the Merseyside club and their former boss Rafael Benitez.
Surprisingly, Salah didn’t score or assist when the two clubs drew 1-1 earlier this season but with his outstanding record of scoring or assisting every 61 minutes in league games at Anfield this term, he will be hoping to play a spoilsport in this all-important battle for both sides. In fact, his five recent home league appearances have seen him make two goalscoring contributions in each of those matches. In the form of his life right now, it seems an inevitability to see Salah leaving his mark in this game as well.
HARRY KANE (vs HUDDERSFIELD TOWN) [H]
Premier League’s top-scorer was the saviour of his side and FPL owners alike last gameweek and that’s again expected to be the case when Spurs take on Huddersfield Town. Talking of the visitors, only Stoke City and West Ham United have shipped more goals than the Terriers this season. And focusing exclusively on the defensive record of Premier League teams in 2018, no team has shipped more goals than Huddersfield Town (16) – who also happens to be among the six clubs that are yet to keep a league cleansheet since the turn of the year. Kane was twice on target when the two clubs met at John Smith’s earlier this season and his 46% owners would be expecting a performance of similar sorts from him.
XHERDAN SHAQIRI (vs SOUTHAMPTON) [A]
3 goals and 7 bonus points earned in last three outings have certainly helped Shaqiri raise his stock as the Swiss international is the most transferred-in midfielder ahead of the gameweek 29 deadline. Stoke City travel to St. Mary’s this gameweek to take on Southampton in a relegation six-pointer. Like Huddersfield, the Saints are yet to keep a shutout in the league this year and considering Mauricio Pellegrino’s men have kept just a solitary cleansheet in last 19 league outings (none in last 7), it looks highly unlikely that they will keep one anytime soon.

The meeting between the two sides earlier this season witnessed Shaqiri supply an assist. And with him having a hand in roughly every second league goal scored by the Potters this term, the former Bayern Munich man clearly holds the key to unlocking not just the Southampton defence but your journey up the FPL rankings table as well, at least for this gameweek.
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG (vs BRIGHTON) [A]
Things appeared to be on the up for the Gabonese after his impressive debut against Everton but his miss from the spot last night is a testament to how all has quickly gone awry ever since. Aubameyang still has time on his side to turn the tide and Arsenal’s trip to the Amex to take on Brighton this gameweek certainly offers that redemption.
The Seagulls are currently on a six-match unbeaten run across all competitions. However, the hosts too are without a cleansheet in 2018, with Huddersfield Town, Everton and West Bromwich Albion being the three teams who have leaked more goals than Brighton so far this year. Although just 15 of Arsenal’s 51 league goals this season have been scored on their travels, it shouldn’t have any bearing on a player of Aubameyang’s quality who, provided he gets the adequate service, can leave any defence for dead with his pace and finishing. A huge gamble nonetheless looking at Arsenal’s current form but considering not many managers would be trusting Aubameyang with the armband, a punt on him might prove to be a masterstroke if he is to unleash his old self this Sunday.
