IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians to play Chennai Super Kings in season opener

The schedule for the IPL 2018 is out and it is the defending champions Mumbai Indians who will take on the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on 7 April in the opener. The final is scheduled at the same venue for 27th May.

The first doubleheader will be played on 8 April, Sunday, with the Delhi Daredevils hosting Kings XI Punjab, followed by another clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers at the Eden Gardens on the same day.

A total of 13 doubleheaders will be played during the season over Saturday and Sunday with 44 games slated for the evening slot, while 12 games will commence in the afternoon.

The Rajasthan Royals, who are making a grand return this year along with Chennai Super Kings after a two-year suspension, will kick off their campaign against Delhi Daredevils at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on 11 April.

In addition to the eight home stadiums of the franchises, Indore will be the ninth venue this season which will play host to three of the seven home games of the Kings XI Punjab. Furthermore, KXIP’s remaining four matches will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. 

The tournament will follow the same format with the top four teams qualifying for the play-offs after playing 14 league games. The play-offs will feature Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the Final.
