We are closing in on the Gameweek 27 of the Premier League and you need to make the all-important captain picks before Saturday afternoon’s deadline lapses. So who’s it going to be? A striker or a midfielder? Mohamed Salah or Harry Kane? Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling? Well, here our captain picks for you for this weekend.
Eden Hazard vs West Brom (H)
Hazard almost came close to rescuing 10-man Chelsea last week with his superb goal from outside the box, but it wasn’t to be. With an ownership of just 8.2%, Hazard presents a differential captaincy option when Chelsea welcome bottom of the table West Brom at the Bridge on Monday night. The Belgian scored twice and also assisted a goal when the two sides met earlier in the season to give a whopping 18 point return, his highest this season. After the drubbing against Watford, Conte would be hoping for a big reaction from his side and there couldn’t have been an easier fixture that he could have asked for and Hazard is his best bet to script a turn in fortunes.
Harry Kane vs Arsenal (H)
Harry Kane’s record against Arsenal speaks for itself. He has scored against the Gunners in all his appearances against them bar the one earlier this season. He has 6 goals in 6 matches against the Gunners in the league and he will be looking to maintain his lead at the top of the scoring charts and add to his 22 goal tally. Arsenal’s matches against the big guns this season have been full of goals with no lack of entertainment and there’s no doubt that both the team will go all guns blazing in this North London derby at the Wembley Stadium as the race for the top 4 heats up. Expect plenty of goals in the week’s opener and hopefully a solid start for those who back Kane with the armband.
Mohamed Salah vs Southampton (A)
Mo Salah is the gift that keeps on giving. The Egyptian is having the season of his dreams and has already surpassed the 200 point mark in FPL, almost 40 points ahead of his nearest competitor. With 21 goals and 8 assists already, he is on track to break the record for the highest points tally by a single player in an FPL season ever. Fixtures don’t seem to impact how Mo Salah performs, given his 15 point return against Spurs last week so a trip to St. Mary’s shouldn’t make much of a difference. Salah is the safest captaincy bet right now and you are likely to end up getting more captaincy points if you just leave the armband on the Egyptian and forget about it until the end of the season.
Sergio Aguero vs Leicester City (H)
With Gabriel Jesus still out injured, Kun Aguero has again become one of the most dependable captaincy options, just like the old times. Since the Brazilian’s injury, Kun has completed 90 minutes in all the EPL fixtures – a streak which now spans 6 GW’s. During this time, Aguero has scored 5 and assisted 1 out of City’s 13 goals, which shows that he has had an influence on almost 50% of City’s goals. City welcome Claude Puel’s Leicester City at the Etihad this weekend, a team which has kept just 2 clean sheets away from home all season. Aguero will be looking to add to his tally of 17 goals and close the gap down Harry Kane who stands at 22.
Theo Walcott vs Crystal Palace (H)
Theo Walcott hit the ground running with a brace against Leicester City on his Toffees debut and looked most likely scorer for Everton in the mauling at Emirates before Sam Allardyce took him off as a precaution when the game was already dead. He will be hoping to continue his form as Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace visit Goodison Park. An ownership of just 6.8% makes Walcott a punt pick for those who are lagging behind in mini-leagues and are willing to take risks.
