The Premier League kicks off this Friday, with Fantasy Premier League managers giving finishing touches to their teams now.
The role of a captain in FPL cannot be undermined. If one gets the Captain right, half the job is already done. FYS provides you with 5 possible captaincy options which managers can consider for Game Week 1.
Alexandre Lacazette : 10.5 million , Leicester (H)
Arsenal’s £52m summer signing, Alexandre Lacazette has a chance to hit the ground running early in the season as the Gunners welcome Leicester to the Emirates in the opening week.
Owned by just over 17 % managers, in the absence of talismanic Alexis Sanchez, the responsibility of scoring will lie on the French striker who bagged 28 goals last season and the 26 year old is very capable of fulfilling that.
Sergio Aguero : 11.5 million , Brighton (A)
Just over 10% managers own the prolific striker, who has scored 20 or more goals in each of his last three seasons. However there is a reason behind FPL managers being skeptical, and that is due to the Pep’s unpredictable selection. One simply cannot afford to keep a 11.5 million striker who might not start game in and game out.
However, it would only be foolish to ignore his prospective returns. Facing Premier League newboys Brighton and Hove Albion, the Argentinian can be a fantastic captaincy option.
Marcos Alonso : 7.0 million , Burnley (H)
Yes, a defender as a captain!
Priced at a very high premium, he is the most expensive defender in the game but his 6 goals, 5 assists and 15 clean sheets last season more than justify his price tag.
Chelsea kick of their campaign by welcoming Burnley at Stamford Bridge. The Clarets are not the most dangerous team away from home, and their star striker Andre Gray has made a move to Watford. The Spanish left back can get points from both ends of the pitch and can turn out be a great differential captain.
Harry Kane : 12.5 million , Newcastle (A)
One doesn’t need must convincing for captaining the Englishman, be it any opposition.
He has scored 75 goals over the last 3 seasons, with 29 in the last one alone. Last year he scored every 87 minutes, and was involved in goal directly in every 70 minutes. He is a solid captaincy option over the whole course of the season.
However, Tottenham will be playing at the Wembley this season and the effect of this change remains to be seen.
Romelu Lukaku : 11.5 million , West Ham (A)
FPL’s most popular player (owned by almost 50% of the teams) will surely be the most captained player too in the 1st Game Week, as United face West Ham at home.
Though the Belgian will want to forget his outing against Read Madrid in the UEFA Cup final, he’s had a fine pre-season and with his experience in the Premier League, he can to provide Manchester United with what they missed last season- finishing.
Not many would bet against him scoring on his Premier League debut for Manchester United, and if managers want to play it safe at the start of the season, captaining Romelu Lukaku seems like a fine decision.
