WWE Smackdown Highlights – Best and Worst Moments!

WWE Smackdown Star John Cena

At Battleground the Great Khali returned, and Kevin Owens retained the United States Title. Owens started the show at WWE Smackdown by announcing that he would defend the United States Open Challenge from the next week.

In this write up we will rate each segment between +5 to -5.

  1. United States Title Promo: +4

Kevin Owens announced that under no condition would he defend the title till next week. AJ Styles interrupted him, asking for his rematch. Jericho returned to Smackdown and shut Owens up. He demanded a title rematch as well. Shane McMahon came out to make a Triple Threat match for later in the night between the three of them for the United States Title.

After recapturing the United States Title from AJ Styles at WWE Battleground, Kevin Owens attempts to announce the return of the New Face of America Open Challenge, only for The Phenomenal One and a returning Chris Jericho to interrupt him.

  1. Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin: +4

Nakamura hit Corbin with some fast knees and blows to the jaw. Corbin took control of the match with clothesline. Nakamura hit Corbin with more knees in the corner. Corbin came back with Nakamura like knees. He followed them up with a Deep Six for a two count. He went for End of Days, but Nakamura spun out of it, avoided the low blow and hit Corbin with the Kinshasa for the win.

  1. Charlotte and Becky Lynch vs Tamina and Lana: +3

Lynch started the match with attempts to lock in the disarmer on Tamina and Lana. Tamina was able to take control. Becky was able to reach Charlotte for the hot tag. She came in and took out Lana and Tamina. She hit Lana with a Big Boot for the win.

Jinder Mahal demanded an opponent for Summerslam. John Cena came out to answer the challenge. Daniel Bryan announced a Cena and Nakamura Number One Contendership match for the WWE Championship for next week.

Jinder Mahal demands to know who will face him for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, only to find out that next week’s dream match between John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura will determine his challenger at The Biggest Event of the Summer.

  1. Sami Zayn and Tye Dillinger vs Mike Kanellis and Aiden English: +3

Mike Kanellis looked really good. He attacked Zayn with ferocity. However English and Kanellis were no match for the combined forces of Zayn and Dillinger. Dillinger destroyed Kanellis and English in the short time that he got, and Zayn picked up the win with a Helluva Kick.

The New Day were interrupted, and their celebration was stopped by the USOs attacking them before they could even enter.

  1. Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles vs Chris Jericho [WWE United States Title]: +5

Owens was attacked by Jericho and Styles. Jericho looked in really good form, dropkicking Owens. Owens attacked Jericho and threw him out of the ring. He hit the Senton on Styles. Styles went for the Calf Crusher, but it was broken up by the Lionsault by Jericho. Owens tried to go for the Electric chair, but Jericho reversed it. Styles threw Owens out of the ring. Styles hit the 450 on Jericho, but was thrown out by Owens. Styles went for the Styles Clash on Jericho, but was reversed by Jericho and Jericho threw Owens into Styles, throwing him out of the ring, and then locked in the Walls of Jericho on Owens. He hit the Codebreaker on Styles for a close two count.

Owens hit two cannonballs on both Jericho and Styles. Styles hit the forearm on Owens, Jericho hit the Enzuigiri on Styles, Owens hit the Superkick on Jericho and Styles hit a Pelle kick on Owens. Jericho threw out Styles from the ring, Owens hit the popup powerbomb on Jericho for a two count. He hit a Frog Splash on Jericho and was thrown out of the ring by Styles. Styles pinned Jericho to win back the United States title.

Owens destroyed the ringside area. He challenged Styles for the Championship in his rematch next week.

The final match was amazing again, possibly the best match of the year. Corbin, Nakamura, Styles, Jericho and Owens all put on the best Smackdown Live show after a disappointing Battleground.. The show got a rating of +22.
