Rafael Nadal at US Open – Best Wins

Rafael Nadal at US Open

“King of Clay” Rafael Nadal made his debut at the US Open back in 2003 and has had somewhat moderate success at the event, advancing to the last 8 only five times ever since and winning the title twice in 2010 and 2013. His back-to-back early exits from the event in 2015 and 2016 and his most recent fourth round exit at the Wimbledon very well makes him unlikely to be one of the favourites at New York City this year. But the Spaniard sure has produced some brilliant tennis on his least favoured surface over the years. So let’s take a look at Rafael Nadal at US Open and his best wins.

Nadal was on a 2-0 sets lead against Heuberger and was well on his way to the second round before he was made to dug deep in the third and fourth sets. But the then 18-yr old Rafa pulled out an amazing 5-setter win in his second U.S Open appearance only to lose in the second round against defending champion Andy Roddick but his performance sure portrayed signs of a future champion in the making.

Murray’s change of tactics went in vain and was barely a match against Nadal in the first two sets. On the othe hand, the Spaniard started with a clear game plan and stuck with it from the very first point targeting his opponent’s weaknesses. In the end, Nadal proved himself to be too gutsy and adept for Murray, improving his game just at the moment when it was required.
