The First India Vs West Indies ODI ended being a wash out as the two face off again in the Second ODI of the five-match series at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
As has been the case on numerous occasions before, rains was predicted prior to the first game and the reality was no different either. Less than 40 overs were bowled as the Indian top order got some batting practice in a match which did not offer much once the skies opened up. With this game scheduled to take place at the same venue, chances of another washout are quite high but both the teams will hope it does not deprive of a result, even if it is a curtailed encounter.
Coming to the match, it will be another David vs Goliath clash as a nearly full strength Indian team takes on the unpredictable hosts. Throughout the first match, the hosts were playing the catching game as the Indian top three had very little problems against the Caribbean bowling. Windies need to produce an all-round collective effort in order to topple the street smart Indian team, who looked absolutely cruising in first game, in spite of being surrounded by controversies off the field. Hence it will be monumental task for the hosts and no wonder India will once again start the favourites in this match.
On that backdrop, we take a look at some of the key players who could play a crucial role in this game-
Batsman- Shikhar Dhawan
After making his way back to the national team through a string of impressive performances in IPL 10, Dhawan was at his flamboyant best in the Champions Trophy 2017. The southpaw had a great outing in the previous edition in 2013, ensured that it was he who acquired the Golden Bat in 2017 on virtue of finishing as the top scorer of the tournament. Continuing his purple patch against Windies in the first ODI too, Dhawan made a stroke-filled 87 and looked settled for another hundred before Bishoo’s harmless leg-spinner got better of him. Nevertheless, the trademark cover drives and the flicks on square of wicket are back, and surely it does leave the alarm bells ringing in the Caribbean camp.

Bowler- Devendra Bishoo
The only Windies bowler who somewhat looked threatening of upsetting the applecart of the Indian openers in the first match, Bishoo’s performance in the next matches will play a big role in deciding the outcome of the series. Though the visitors have a history of playing best spinners with relative ease, Bishoo’s no-nonsense approach can immensely work in his favour.
The leggie put in a decent show at Port of Spain in first game, finishing with 1/39 in his quota of 10 overs. While the majority of the bowlers were conceding above five an over, Bishoo was the only one who to a certain extent managed to pull brakes against the merry-making Indian batting unit.
All Rounder- Hardik Pandya
Slowly evolving as India’s premier all-rounder in limited overs cricket, Hardik Pandya showed the world a glimpse of his capabilities in the final of Champions Trophy 2017 against Pakistan. Coming in to bat when India were literally tottering, Pandya’s whirlwind 43-ball 76 not only left the Pakistan spinners battered and brusied, but also raised hopes of an unlikely Indian victory.
A horrible mix-up with Jadeja resulted in his downfall, but the Mumbai Indians lad proved that he is here to stay and can well be touted as India’s next batting all-rounder in making. However, it is his bowling which still has acres of improvement and the sooner he does that, the better it is for Indian cricket.
