After the defeat in the final of the Champions Trophy, India Vs West Indies takes place with India touring the Caribbean to play 5 ODI matches and a one off T20 match. India have been in prime form off late despite a bad performance in the final against Pakistan where they were completely outplayed. Other than that they have been on top of their game in all the formats displaying dominant cricket against all the sides.

India will be playing the first ODI match on 23rd June at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad against the West Indies. While India have been performing consistently, Windies on the other hand failed to even qualify for the Champions Trophy before the deadline and therefore did not participate.
India will be the favourites while going into the series. They are the number 3 ranked ODI side whereas Windies is ranked 9th in the ICC Rankings. India lost only one match against Sri Lanka in the group stages of the Champions Trophy.
West Indies last played a 3 match ODI series against Afghanistan which was drawn at 1-1 while one match was abandoned. Afghanistan stunned Windies in the 1st ODI in which Rashid Khan rattled the West Indian batting order. West Indies won the second ODI thereby equaling the series as it was drawn in the end. On that backdrop we take a look at the key players for the first ODI match of the series.
Key Batsman- Virat Kohli
The Indian skipper has been in great touch including the recently concluded Champions Trophy in which he scored 258 runs in 5 matches at a stunning average of 129.00. He is currently the number one ranked ODI batsman in the ICC rankings. A legend in the making, he has been a class apart over the years dominating quality opposition bowlers with ease. His batting antics are known to the world and need no justification as he would be undoubtedly the key batsman to watch out for the West Indies in the first ODI match.

Key Bowler- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kumar had been instrumental for India in the Champions Trophy for India and also for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He bagged 7 wickets in 5 matches in the Champions Trophy for India. His best bowling performance came in the final against Pakistan which India lost where he showed his bowling prowess as he was the most effective Indian bowler and ended with figures of 10-2-44-1 while other Indian bowlers were smashed all around the park. He was also the purple cap winner in the IPL with 26 wickets in 14 matches.
FACT: India’s win percentage in ODIs is 100% whenever Bhuvneshwar Kumar takes 2 or more than 2 wickets in ODIs outside Asia. #INDvBAN

Key All Rounder- Hardik Pandya
Pandya is gradually becoming a vital part of the team and earning his rightful place with his contributions. In the final against the Pakistan, he showed his capability of becoming a match winner for India when he could have taken India across the line if not for that mix up with Ravindra Jadeja which resulted in him being run out. He scored an impressive 76 off 43 balls which included 4 fours and 6 sixes.
He smacked Shadab Khan for 3 consecutive sixes in an over and then Fakhar Zaman for 2 sixes when India was under tremendous pressure as they were 6 wickets down. If he was not run out, he could have won India the match along with Jadeja courtesy a partnership among the duo but India lost the final. He has been pretty impressive with the ball too filling the spot of the All rounder India was longing for.
