This win keeps the Swiss second on the list of most match wins on the ATP Tour, after American tennis legend Jimmy Connors, who sits comfortably with 1256 wins.

Federer was completely dominant in the match and did not give his Japanese counterpart  any chance to fight or show some resistance in the match as he outplayed the Sugita in all aspects of the match.

With 8 aces and an impressive 90% points won on the first serve, Federer forced Sugita to go more on his serve.

The Swiss Maestro also broke the Sugita serve 5 times in the match, though he got himself also broken right at the end but he got the job done.

He might not have had a perfect start to his grass court campaign in Stuttgart, he made sure he played well in Halle and get set for The Championships.
