The Mercedes Cup sees a major upset in the Second Round as Roger Federer crashes out of Mercedes Cup to veteran Tommy Haas in three sets. Federer is one win short of an amazing 1100 ATP Tour wins.
The reigning Australian Open Champion showed noticeable signs of being rusty in his comeback, struggling for consistency with his ground strokes against an inspired Haas.
Federer took just 23 minutes to wrap the opening set in front of a packed crowd, who saw Haas fight back in the Second Set into a tie-break following a solitary break from both the players in the set.
Haas eventually took the tiebreak and carried that form into the deciding set, holding his nerve to serve out for a 6-4 win to seal a deserved win in front of his home crowd.
Haas will face Mischa Zverev in the quarter-finals who beat Yannick Hanfmann in straight set 7-6, 6-2.
