Maria Sharapova to miss Wimbledon following a muscle tear she sustained in Rome.
The Russian recently announced on Facebook that the scan results were not that positive and that she is forced to miss the entire Grass Court Season.
This is what she wrote on Facebook – “After an additional scan, the muscle tear that I sustained in Rome will unfortunately not allow me to compete in the grass court tournaments I was scheduled to play. I want to thank the LTA for their amazing support on my return and providing me with a Birmingham wild card, a tournament which I hope many of you will be able to attend. I look forward to meeting you there next year. I will continue to work on my recovery and my next scheduled tournament is in Stanford.”
Sharapova made an emphatic return to the WTA Tour this year and had mixed results on her return. With some controversy surrounding her wildcard at the French Open, the Russian was supported in England and was given a Wildcard in Birmingham.
It’s going to be some more time for Sharapova fans to see her as she has set her sights to Stanford.
