Arsenal are in deep trouble again. This time not for finishing fourth or for selling a striker to a rival club, but because several first team players want to leave the club. Mesut Ozil has had his dissatisfaction expressed long back, while Alexis Sanchez is destined for bigger and better things. Lately, even Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have made their intentions of leaving the Gunners very clear. We look at five players Arsenal could sign to replace Alexis Sanchez.
Having arrived from Rennes in France last season to Dortmund, Ousmane Dembele is an instant hit in the Bundesliga. Only 19 years of age and being highly rated by numerous legends of the game, Arsenal can look to build an attack around the Frenchman.
To look at the positive side of things, Wenger is good with grooming young talents over the years and the fact that Dembele’s French only adds to his chances. Dembele is also being pursued by Barcelona and Chelsea too, but Dortmund’s $78m price tag might as well keep the eagles away from the prey.
Fiorentina’s new found star Bernerdeschi is a top target for Chelsea and Roma. The 22-year old might consider a move this summer and Arsenal could pounce on to make the most of the opportunity.
With Sanchez and Ozil leaving, the Italian could get regular game time under Wenger, something that Conte can’t assure him at Chelsea.
With a price tag of around 34 million pounds, Arsenal could well be looking for Federico Bernerdeschi signature this transfer window.
If reports are to be believed, Isco has settled his issues with Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane and is slated to be at the Bernabeu for at least another year. Always an Arsenal target, Isco was scheduled to leave Real Madrid for greener pastures this summer.
And in the scheme of things, even without Champions League football, Isco should have been the perfect fit. However, it looks like this is not to be as the Spaniard has come up with terrific performances of late to provoke Zidane to start him ahead of Gareth Bale in the Champions League final. His drafting No.10 play is catching eyes and he could be hard to keep for Real come next season.
Quick speed, good mentality, young and Premier League proven – Anthony Martial of Manchester United could well be on his way out if United sign a decent winger in Perisic or Greizmann. Martial is French, has a good rapport with Wenger and is hungry for success, things that bode well for the Gunners right now.
Whether or not Manchester United allow this transfer to happen or not is another factor altogether, but he is someone who can do well at Arsenal, given that their fans don’t expect much of the Gunners this season.
The most probable of all the names on the list, RB Leipzig’s Emil Forsberg was a Bundesliga star last season with 9 goals and 19 assists. Arsenal want the man from Sweden but naturally face a lot of resistance from the selling club.
If Forsberg comes to Arsenal, they get a perfect like for like replacement for Alexis Sanchez as Forsberg is dynamic, a drafter and can play on both the flanks. It depends on the player now to take the final call, on weather to stay for the Bundesliga new boys or don the Gunners’ jersey next season.
