The Second Major of the year – French Open has seen a lot of sportsmanship over the course of the first week and has also seen its share of seeded players bowing out early in the draw. We take a look at the French Open 2017 Week 1 review
Milos Raonic (5)
The Canadian Cannon lost to Pablo Carreno Busta in the Fourth Round, losing to the Spaniard in five enthralling sets 6-4, 6-7(2),7-6(6),4-6,6-8.
He was the only seed from the Top-8 to have not reached the Quarterfinals
Angelique Kerber (1)
By far the biggest upset to have taken place at the French Open this year was that of World No.1 Angelique Kerber.
The German crashed out to Russian Ekaterina Makarova after winning just 4 games in her loss.
Best Sportsmanship like conduct
Juan Martin del Potro Vs Nicolas Almagro
It’s no secret that del Potro has had his share of injuries in his career and he surely understands the pain one goes through with injury.
His opponent Nicolas Almagro injured his knee during the Rome Masters and fell the pinch against the Argentine.
He fell down immediately and started crying with del Potro reaching out to him and consoling him.
Huge amount of heart from @DelPotroJuan at @RolandGarros.❤️ 🇪🇸 Nicolas Almagro (knee) forced to retire v. 🇦🇷 JM Del Potro. #RolandGarros2017 https://t.co/DvzjYaatft
Most Controversial Match
One of the most controversial matches took place between the Frenchwoman and the Spaniard. Muguruza ended up losing the match but was really disappointed with the way the French crowd was treating her.
She broke down during her post match conference and showed her disapproval towards them while leaving.
Muguruza clearly affected by a noisy partisan crowd today. Was a major factor in her defeat.. waggles her finger at the crowd, gets booed 😮 https://t.co/oyzwgGf3hr
