The French courts are finally commencing their closure as we near the end of an entertaining Grand Slam in the French Open 2017. To increase the hype and adding to the entertainment, next up we have the local lady, Kristina Mladenovic taking on the Swiss national, Timea Bacsinszky in the quarter finals of the French Open 2017.
The French has already won 3 epic matches in her current title walk already spurring the boisterous French crowd, probably easing the local’s route to the title. To compensate a part of the limelight is the Swiss sensation, Timea Bacsinszky that is entering the French Open quarters for the 3rd consecutive time, making her intentions of clinching the title clear as glass to the Frenchwoman. Timea would undoubtedly be at least eyeing to emulate her 2015 run in Paris, managing it to the top 4. The stage is all set for a fierce brawl to intrigue the exuberant crowd of Paris.
Kristina Mladenovic, has seemingly made it look it easy to go walk uptil date in her previous 3 matches. She had huge doubts to moving forward in her French Open 2017 campaign considering her back injury in the very first match of the tournament. But a tough and overpowering Mladenovic survived the disaster in a classy way, moving past Jennifer Brady after commencing the match squandering in the very first set, 3-6. She eventually won the bout to bolster her confidence, winning it 3-6, 6-3, 9-7. The French local carried on her outstanding piece of play against her next opponent in Sara Errani thumping her 6-2, 6-3 before winning it against the then French Open champion, Garbine Muguruza in an enticing bout to end it 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. The crowd up-roared with joy seeing their favourite cruise to the quarters.
Speaking of the Swiss, she has had a unique affair with the French Clay, after seeing herself as the only female player to make it to the quarters in 3 successive years. She edged past her contraries in the first 3 matches, knocking out Sara Sorribes-Tormo, Madison Brengle and Ons Jabeur, and to the delight, all in easy straight set wins. Though the toughest test she succeded in was in her fight against a member of the Williams sisters, Venus Williams, after crushing her title hopes in 3 set win. Williams started of nicely after playing out Bacsinszky in the very first set 5-7. But the local delight never seemed to capitulate and emphatically turned over the tables winning the match 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 to set up a clash with Mladenovic alongside making it to the record books.
The brawling pair have faced each other twice splitting up the match wins to one a piece. Mladenovic found a way through Bacsinszky on grass in Eastbourne last year, defeating her 6-1 7-5 but more recently being defeated by her counter-part in the Fed cup, 7-6 4-6 7-5.
The match is likely to be an epic showdown for both the players as the both look forward to winning the title after knocking out all the potential top contenders on their way to quarters. Timea has averaged a decent 59.9% first serve points YTD and provenly has the full potential to be the biggest hindrance in Mladenovic’s walk to the title.
