The ICC Champions Trophy is all set to get rolling with hosts England taking on a resurgent Bangladesh side on Thursday. Let’s take a look at the important players to watch out for in this contest.
BATSMAN – EOIN MORGAN
The skipper of the English One Day outfit, Eoin Morgan won’t be the first choice as a key batsman with players like Joe Root in the squad. But, observing his recent performances and the confidence he exudes, he earns the spot. In England’s recently concluded series against South Africa, he slammed 107 runs off 93 balls guiding his team to a huge total in the very first match. The next match too, he struck a 95 run partnership with Stokes when England were in a bit of trouble at 80-3. Morgan’s unorthodox batting style captures the eye and makes him a player to watch out for.
ALL-ROUNDER – BEN STOKES
The all-rounder from Durham, Ben Stokes has been one of the top performing players for England in the recent past. He has been in exquisite touch with the bat and has been a handy wicket-taking option with the ball. Like Morgan, he also smashed a century against South Africa, a 79 ball 101 helping England reach 330. It’s worth mentioning he was named as the Most Valuable Player in the recently concluded IPL, for his wickets and runs, including a century.
BOWLER – MUSTAFIZUR RAHMAN
The young Bangladeshi left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman has been a sensation ever since he broke into the scene in 2015 against India, picking up the most wickets in a debut series. He was the main catalyst to Bangladesh winning the series. The pacer’s unorthodox seam position, deadly yorkers and surprisingly deceptive slower deliveries make him the key bowler to watch out for in the first clash of the Champions Trophy 2017.
