Dominic Thiem will continue his pursuit for Roland Garros, as he plays the Italian Simone Bolelli in the Second Round. The world no.7 has risen the ranks and has come out as a surprise but serious contender for the French Open.
The Austrian made it to the finals in Barcelona and Madrid, and to the semi finals of the Italian Open, defeating Nadal in the quarters.
His fabulous performance was rewarded by an exponential rise to No.7 on the ATP charts. Thiem cruised past the Australian Bernard Tomic 6-4,6-0,6-2.
The Italian Bolelli on the other hand has made his way up through an impressive performance in the qualifiers and then in the first round against Nicolas Mahut. He is certainly an underdog against Thiem but an upset is always on the cards.
This is just the second meeting between the two. The first one was in the Italian Open in 2015, in which Thiem prevailed by 7-6,7-6. With both men in form, the second meeting could be equally competitive, if not more.
