The Spaniard faced Benoit Paire in the Opening Round and humbled the Frenchman in straight sets, dropping just 6 games en route to a convincing 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 win in just under 2 hours.

Bidding to win his 10th French Open title, Nadal was dictating play right from the start, not allowing his compatriot any chance to come back.

With some resistance provided by Paire in the Second Set, Nadal smashed through Set 1 and Set 3 to next face Robin Haase of the Netherlands.

Novak Djokovic

The score line does not do justice to the troubles Granollers caused the Serb, who outclassed his opponent 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in 2 hours and 27 minutes.

Drawn in the same half as Rafa, Djokovic next takes on either compatriot Janko Tipsarevic or Portugal’s Joao Sousa in the Second Round.
