Former World No.1 Venus Williams is set to complete two decades at Roland Garros today. The American, seeded 10th for the tournament will be playing her first round match against Chinese opponent Wang Qiang.
Venus, who turns 37 in under a month made her debut in Paris in 1997 with the exception of 2011, is still considered as one of the favourites for the title here.
Such has been her longevity that her potential second round opponent could be Amanda Anisimova who is an amazing 22 years younger than Williams.
When Venus lost the 2002 Roland Garros final to Serena, Anisimova was just nine months old.
“I’m here as I still have a lot to give. That just wraps it up,” said Venus, who has never got beyond the quarter-finals in Paris since her runner-up spot 15 years ago.
