The 2016-17 season has been a successful one for Jurgen Klopp and co. With Champions League qualifications now secured, Liverpool can once again challenge the top teams for quality players in the market. It is no secret to anyone that Liverpool do need to strengthen a lot of areas of their squad.
The Anfield faithful are crying out loud for a sturdy left back,a solid center back,a holding midfield and a quick winger while singing another right back should be considered to compete with Nathaniel Clyne.
Liverpool are expected to spend big this summer, and indeed they need to – if they are to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and the Manchester Clubs while they must be looking on to put a good show in the Champions League. Here are some of the players which Liverpool might look at in this transfer window :
1. Virgil Van Dijk
Yes, another Southampton player. Van Dijk has been linked to Liverpool since the start of 2017 as the Reds look to bring some stability in their leaky defence. While Matip and Lovren make a decent pairing in the heart of the defence, the Dutch center back is expected to take the club to the next level. Being 6’3, he can be the solution to Liverpool’s set piece problem too.
2. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain
The Arsenal midfielder is considering a move away from the Emirates to get more first team opportunities, and according to reports Liverpool are favourites to sign the 23 year old. ‘The Ox’ on paper looks a perfect addition to Liverpool’s roaster.
His age, pace, versitality and directness should attract Jurgen Klopp’s interest in him as Liverpool look to add some pace in the attack, which has looked blunt in Sadio Mane’s absence. He also has Premier League experience and for £20 million , he could turn out to be a bargain buy for the Merseysiders.
3. Naby Keita
The RB Leipzig central midfielder has caught the eye of many with his brilliant performances this campaign, which helped Leipzig to a surprise 2nd place finish in the Bundesliga.
The 22 year old has scored 8 goals and assisted another 7 from midfield. His vision, tackling and dribbling from the centre of the park might just turn out to be what Liverpool have lacked since Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso left.
However, the German side are keen the retain their top players, and only a bid in excess of £50 million would interest them.
4. Ricardo Rodriguez
The Reds are keen to sign a new left back this season, and James Rodriguez has emerged as a possible option for the club. The 25 year old can also play as a centre back, is an excellent set piece taker and likes to attack whenever possible.
He reportedly has a buy out clause of £18.7 million, which is reasonable although the main concern for Liverpool is that AC Milan are also very interested in securing the services of the Swiss international.
5. Mohammed Salah
The prospect of seeing Salah on one wing and Mane on the other is a mouth watering one for all Liverpool fans. The Egyptian has been in thunderous form this season, scoring 19 goals and assisting 12 goals this season. His electric pace, excellent vision and a eye for goal makes him a perfect addition to this Liverpool team.
He can play as right winger, central attacking midfielder or as a forward too. Signing the talented 24 year old midfielder would surely mark as a statement of intent by Jurgen Klopp, who now hopes to push Liverpool a step further.
