The WWE Backlash pay-per-view saw great matches like Owens and Styles and Zayn and Corbin.

We rate the segments on a scale of -5 to +5.

  1. Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler: +4

The match had everything, with Dolph Ziggler throwing all the offence that he had at Nakamura. It was not enough and Dolph came up short in his attempts to ruin Nakamura’s debut, and lost as he fell to the Kinshasa of Nakamura. Before, Dolph had hit him with a spike DDT and a Fameasser as well as Superkick. None of it was enough to stop him.

  1. Breezango vs Usos [c] [WWE Tag Team Titles]: +2

This match was extremely entertaining, with Chicago obviously loving Breezango. They even looked a viable threat, as the Usos only won due to using underhanded tactics to pick up the win.

Jey and Jimmy retained but only after heelish tactics.

  1. Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin: +5

This was undoubtedly the match of the night. There was really never going to be any other way about it. It looked surely like Baron was going to win, but Sami picking up the win came from nowhere and it really worked. Sami beat Baron by using his Helluva kick, and he finally looks strong.

  1. Naomi, Charlotte and Becky Lynch vs The Welcoming Committee: -3

This was the weakest match of the night. With the commentary selling that the feud was over after the match, this was going nowhere, and made Becky look weak by making her tap out to Natalya’s Sharpshooter for no reason whatsoever. This is typical WWE short term booking.

  1. Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles [WWE United State Title]: +3

Another really good match was this one. That is to be expected from any match Owens and Styles are both involved in. Owens hitting Styles with three consecutive Senton Splashes was awesome. They really sold the AJ leg injury in this match. The match ending in a count out was perfect as it really helped in Owens retaining without making Styles look weak. Both men looked really strong, and it looks like this feud is far from over.

  1. Luke Harper vs Eric Rowan: +2

Somehow or other this match was amazing. For the first time ever Eric Rowan looked strong in a match. Harper is an amazing star, and needs to be pushed, and him winning this match helped. Rowan hit Harper with a Powerbomb but Harper won the match with a Clothesline thrust.

  1. Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal [WWE World Heavyweight Title]: +3

Orton nearly won the match with an early RKO. The Singh brothers interfered in the later part of the match, and distracted Orton, pulling out Jinder after Orton had hit him with an RKO. They distracted him enough for Jinder to recover and Jinder took advantage, hitting him with his Cobra Clutch Slam, Khalas, for the win. Orton dominated a large portion of the match but was unable to retain his World Heavyweight Title.

Jinder is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

The Pay-per-view was a good one other than the Welcoming Committee debacle. The pay-per-view rating was +14, and the Sami and Corbin match was the night highlight.
