With RPS losing out to MI in the final last night, it’s time to look back at the 7 most memorable moments of Indian Premier League season 10.
Ten years ago, cricket lovers in our country used to find out ways to tackle boring off-seasons and often found it difficult to accept a period of two months without any significant cricketing event.
Then came the Indian Premier League and people rather started waiting for the off-season to arrive.
The tournament has given us some memorable moments over the course of last nine editions and this edition has been no different. Here are some the best moments from this season’s IPL:
Sanju Samson’s century
Ever since the Keralite arrived in the Indian Premier League, he has set the stage on fire. This year, under the coaching of Rahul Dravid, the talent of Sanju Samson reached majestic heights and it was evident when he ended up scoring the first century of the tournament. In a tournament where the likes of Warner, Gayle and Kohli were yet to take-off, a young Indian scoring the first century of the season was no mean feat and the moment was good enough to earn him a place on our list.
A mature knock from the youngster that saw him plunder runs to all parts of the ground
Samuel Badree’s hat-trick
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been known for their batting performances in the IPL, but this year was completely different. While the batsmen flopped again and again, it was the bowlers who stepped up for the Vijay Mallya-owned outfit. A remarkable bowling performance by Samuel Badree, who picked up a hat-trick in the third over of the Mumbai Indian innings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, was the highlight of their season. Badree dismissed Parthiv Patel, McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma off consecutive balls. Although Caribbean’s effort could not win the game for his team, it was more than enough to earn a him place on this list.
Leg-spinner Badree knocked three on the trot for RCB putting the Mumbai Indians in a spot of bother early on in the innings
Andrew Tye’s Hat-trick
The Australia all-rounder had earned a reputation of being a T20 specialist but was yet to show his skills in the IPL. However, in his very first IPL game, the Aussie pacer showed his worth by picking up a hat-trick in the final over of RPS innings. He dismissed Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur off consecutive deliveries to create history. Obviously, it was one of the magical moments of this season.
A debut to remember for the medium pacer as he picks three in a row in one over to make it a memorable night
Sandeep Sharma’s spell vs RCB
Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are arguably three of the most feared batsmen in the shortest format of the game. However, young Indian fast bowler Sandeep Sharma proved his mettle by dismissing all the three batsmen in consecutive overs. The spell will definitely go down as one of the best moments of this season.
David Warner’s swashbuckling century vs KKR
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner is definitely one of the most consistent batsmen in the last four seasons of the IPL and he continued his merry run in the tournament after smashing a swashbuckling century against KKR. Definitely, such massacre deserves a place on this elite list.
Sunil Narine’s 15 ball fifty
On a pitch where his Caribbean teammate Chris Gayle was dismissed for a duck opening the innings for hosts RCB, Sunil Narine gave a lethal presentation of stroke making. The mystery spinner known for his bowling tricks, smashed the joint-fastest fifty in the history of IPL off 15 balls to kill the game within first six overs. RCB could not recover from the Narine-storm and lost the game within fifteen overs.
It was absolute carnage as Sunil Narine launched an attack on the RCB bowling line-up that had no answers whatsoever. Narine notched the joint-fastest IPL 50 in the process
Chants of RCB-RCB at Kotla
Virat Kohli’s RCB are the darling of the Indian crowd wherever they play but this has been a poor season for them. The team had lost 10 games in a row before visiting the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi to play their last league game of the season. When Chris Gayle hit a six off Mohammed Shami, the whole crowd erupted into the chants of ‘RCB’ ‘RCB’. For a moment, people might have mistaken Kotla for Chinnaswamy. It proved that one bad season is not enough to cool down the fans and RCB are still the fan-favorites.
