The IPL bandwagon in the tenth season has reached its climax with another Maharashtra Derby to cap off the season. Mumbai Indians (MI) come to Hyderabad to face Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the finale after their win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second Qualifier.
RPS are the only team this season to have kept the table toppers at bay as their head-to-head record this year is in favour of RPS with a 3-0 margin. Their overall head-to-head record stands in favour of Pune with a 4-1 margin. The last time when the two teams met was in the first Qualifier in which RPS defeated MI by 20 runs to claim a berth in the final.
The fact that RPS was able to defend a modest 162 on a Wankhede Pitch against the batting might of Mumbai ratifies their bowling dominance throughout the season. They are packed with some amazing talent pool in their batting ranks led by Captain Smith. Smith, young Tripathi, Manoj Tiwari, Dhoni and lately Rahane – all have risen to the occasion to contribute to their team’s success. This was the reason why RPS are able to fill the huge void created by Ben Stokes’ absence.
On the other hand, MI will have a psychological pressure to deal with as they were cleaned up three times in a row by RPS this year. They were the table toppers and cruised to qualification and even got some time to test out their bench strength. Their performance against KKR the other night proves what a formidable all-round team they are. RPS will not want to be complacent about their unbeaten run against MI this year as it will be a huge mistake.
Let’s have a look at the probable XI of both the teams for the Grand finale.
