Pandey was in sublime form in the IPL as he had scored 396 runs in 13 matches he played at an average of 46.50. He is the second highest run getter for KKR in this season till now. Now his injury has paved an opportunity for Dinesh Karthik to don the national colours once again in such an important tournament.
In this year’s IPL, Karthik had contributed with the bat significantly for Gujarat Lions, as he was their second highest run getter after skipper Suresh Raina. He scored 361 runs for the Lions in 13 matches at an average of 36.10 with some match winning innings.
Karthik has had a very impressive domestic season as he has scored 704 runs in 10 Ranji matches at an average of 54.15. Also, he scored 211 runs in 3 games of Duleep Trophy at 52.75. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored a staggering 607 runs in 9 matches at an average of 86.71 with 202 runs in Deodhar Trophy also. These numbers are the reason that he has been called up to replace Manish Pandey in the squad.
