Brazilian playmaker Oscar, who left for China to play for Shanghai SIPG in the January transfer window, will receive the Premier League medal according to the rules and regulations of the Premier League. Oscar played 9 times for Chelsea this season before moving to China, and Premier League regulations state that a player who has played more than 5 times in a season for a time is entitled to receive the medal should the team win the Premier League.
On the other hand, players like Nathan Ake, Asmir Begovic and Charley Musonda, who are still a part of the first team squad are not expected to receive the medal, as they have not made 5 or more Premier League appearances this season. Nathan made 10 appearances for Bournemouth, before being recalled by Antonio Conte, and has not enjoyed a lot of first team football. Begovic, on the other hand, has also struggled for game time this season because of the form of Thibaut Courtois and has made just 2 Premier League appearances so far this season.
Oscar, Ivanovic to get Premier League medals
Oscar left Chelsea to go play in China… yet he still wins another Premier League which Arsenal have been waiting for over 13 years.
Right Back Branislav Ivanovic, who also left the club in January for Zenit St. Petersburg will also be in contention for a winners medal, having played 13 times for Chelsea prior to the move.
Youngsters Ola Aina and Kenedy are also expected to miss out, as they haven’t played more than 5 games.
There is still some hope for the players who stand to miss out on a medal. Chelsea will get to choose how their 40 medals are allocated, meaning Conte can still decide to reward his fringe players if he sees fit.
Some luck for Oscar and Ivanovic, while players like Begovic and Ake would be gutted.
