With just 2 matches to go in the Indian Premier League 2017, things have gotten quite serious as we wait to know who the second finalist will be. Rising Pune Supergiant have already reached the Final with their fantastic win over Mumbai Indians for the third successive time this year, on Monday. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore will be stage for the battle of the Big Guns, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, in Qualifier 2 to decide who will play Steven Smith and his team on Sunday in the final.
The two teams were the first of the four to qualify for the Play-offs this year. Mumbai had a dream run with 11 wins in the tournament so far. They topped the table with 22 points and staggered their way into the elimination stages. Kolkata, on the other hand, though had a good position on the table in the middle of the season, failed to capitalise their momentum and could only finish third on the table.
Since they finished in the Top 2 positions, MI and RPS faced each other in the Qualifier 1. Pune beat them and made their way into the final. Thanks to the privileges of finishing number 1, MI now have a second chance to make it to Hyderabad on Sunday. They have to race ahead of KKR, who are in a similar position of making it there.
Kolkata, having finished third on the table, defeated SRH in a rain-affected thriller against SRH on Wednesday. In a game that went into the brink of dawn, KKR emerged the winners, thanks to their skipper Gautam Gambhir, who scored a match winning 32 in just 19 balls while chasing a revised total of 48 in 6 overs.
