KKR vs MI | IPL Qualifier 2: Fantasy Preview & Team News

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir Superheros

The Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Mumbai Indians in the qualifier 2 of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. Both teams will go head to head to book a place in the final against the Rising Pune Supergiants. KKR delivered an exceptional bowling performance in the eliminator against the defending Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad by restricting them to 128. Gautam Gambhir led the way in the chase of 48 in a game marred by rain and eventually helped Kolkata win the game easily after a few initial hiccups.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, were defeated by RPS in the first qualifier by 20 runs. Mumbai’s batting collapsed under pressure, and could not chase a target of 163 on a slow Wankhede pitch. The Rohit Sharma-led outfit would be looking to regroup and produce a good performance to book their place in the final.

Mumbai Indians Team News:

Veteran off Spinner Harbhajan Singh was left out of the eleven in the previous game. He is expected to come back in place of Karn Sharma or Krunal Pandya. Ambati Rayudu got out for a duck in the last game but is still expected to feature ahead of Nitish Rana.

The bowling department is expected to remain the same despite Mitchell McClenaghan being taken to the cleaners by MS Dhoni. The Kiwi has been one of MI’s best bowlers and is likely to keep his place despite going for plenty in the last game.

Kolkata Knight Riders Team News:

Manish Pandey missed the eliminator against the Sunrisers Hyderabad due to an injury and is unlikely to feature today. Ishank Jaggi or Suryakumar Yadav might make way for the Karnataka batsman. Elsewhere, Uthappa is likely to open again alongside Lynn, with Gambhir coming in at 3.

In the bowling department, Piyush Chawla might make way for chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. The pace bowling battery would remain the same, with Coulter-Nile, Umesh Yadav and Trent Boult all bowling well in the last game.

Fantasy Pick Batsman: Gautam Gambhir

The veteran batsman showcased all his class and experience in the last game when his team needed him the most, and would be looking to fire once more against the Mumbai Indians. Gambhir has been brilliant this tournament for KKR and has mixed caution with aggression extremely well.

Although he was ignored by selectors for the Champions Trophy, he would be looking to prove the selectors wrong by guiding his team to the title for the 3rd time. KKR would be hoping their captain continues his form against MI, and lead his team to the final.

Gautam Gambhir plays a shot

Fantasy Pick Bowler: Jasprit Bumrah

The young Indian pacer has been in good form this season but was taken to the cleaners by MS Dhoni in the last game. Bumrah would be looking to put the disappointment behind him, and deliver the goods for his team in this game. The Indian pacer has played a vital role in Mumbai’s surge to the playoffs and would be looking to deliver in the big game against KKR. With Kolkata boasting the likes of Gambhir, Uthappa and Lynn in their team, Mumbai would need Bumrah to be in top form to keep the Kolkata batsmen quiet.

Fantasy Pick All Rounder: Hardik Pandya

The Indian pace bowling all-rounder has bee sublime this season for Mumbai Indians and has played a few vital match-winning cameos. Pandya has done well in the past against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gambhir and his men would be wary of his hard hitting capabilities. He has also chipped in with a few wickets and has been electric in the field as well. Mumbai would be hoping their young all-rounder does well in the qualifier and guide his team to the final to be played in Hyderabad.

Top Punt Player: Ishank Jaggi

The Jharkhand player was given his first chance of the season against SRH and kept a cool head to ensure KKR’s run chase went off smoothly. Jaggi has been doing really well in the domestic competitions and can push the peddle to the floor from the word go. He might get a place in the eleven against Mumbai Indians and would look to justify his selection with a good performance.

Well how do Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar prepare themselves for this match? Have a look!
