The WTA 2017 Mutua Madrid Open final will be be one to watch out for in Simona Halep Vs Kristina Mladenovic. Halep is the No.3 for this event as compared to No.14 for Mladenovic.
The French edged past Kuznetsova, beating her in straight sets despite a tough competetion handed by the Russian. She beat her 6-4, 7-6 with the second set being an interesting tie-braker. Having an overall average 56% 1st serve percent, she will surely find it hard to beat the World No.3.
While on the other hand Halep was the hot favourite in her semis tie, she handled the pressure really well and fought through to make her way into the finals beating Sevastova in straight sets. Sevastova produced some neat plays in the first set, but couldn’t survive the Halep storm. Halep is known for her timing and placement of the ball, which makes us wonder if the French could survive this storm coming her way.
Speaking about Mladenovic, she has made some great performances this year round and has managed to reach a total of 6 finals in her tour but managing to grab hold of only 1. She is currently a 14th seed player, and is surely expected to cross her career best and establish an own personal record. She is even expected to be challenging for the No.1 spot in coming days, on the road to Singapore, given she beats Halep to the Madrid Open title.
To compensate the lime light the French is having, Halep also has an interesting tournament so far, making it to the semis of Women’s Doubles in the Madrid Open.
Given all this, the French does walk into the finals with a mental advantage over Halep, beating her thrice in their previous 4 meetings, of which Halep fell prey in what was a straight set win for Mladenovic, 6-3,6-3 , in their last meeting at the Indian Wells earlier this year. It would be quite an interesting match as Halep seeks revenge for her last loss and Mladenovic having that mental edge over Halep along with the confidence of some great performances the present year.
