The match that everyone has been looking for since the Madrid Open draw was made is finally here. It’s Rafael Nadal Vs Novak Djokovic in the Semi Finals of the Madrid Open in a match that promises some fireworks.
Nadal has been in imperious form on clay so far this season, winning the Monte Carlo Masters and backing it up with the Barcelona Open. Both these titles were his 10th each on both the tournaments, a unique achievement in itself.
Ranked at No.5 in the World at the moment, no one can dispute Nadal’s calibre on clay as he looks to gain more confidence going into his favourite slam – French Open. He has been playing well at this event also and though he struggled with Fabio Fognini, his previous round victories over David Goffin and Nick Kyrgios were really impressive.
Djokovic on the other hand has not had the best of seasons so far and has been struggling to find form coming into this match. Yet to decide on who he would hire as a coach, the Serb has won one title this year and has a 14-4 win-loss record so far. But getting a walkover against Kei Nishikori in the previous round might give him the edge over the Spaniard.
Ranked behind Andy Murray on the ATP Charts, Djokovic is slowly catching up to regain his World No.1 ranking and would be looking forward to getting some much needed confidence going into the French Open.
What makes this clash special is that this is the 50th time the two are set to play with the Serb holding a 26-23 lead in their head-to-head count.
