Delhi Daredevils defeated the Gujarat Lions by 2 wickets in the close encounter at Green Park Kanpur. Gujarat scored a fighting score of 195, but Delhi chased it down courtesy of Shreyas Iyer. Amit Mishra struck two fours in the final over to lead Delhi over the line.
Here we look at the Heroes and Zeroes from the game :
1) Aaron Finch :
— ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) May 10, 2017
The Aussie has blown hot and cold this season, but played a brilliant innings here to propel the Gujarat Lions to 195. Finch has been guilty of being inconsistent and the Gujarat Lions have suffered as a result. But his knock was still a brilliant one as he led his team to a big total. Finch is one of the most destructive batsmen in the world when on song and his wide array of strokeplay was on display against the Daredevils. He was unlucky to finish on the losing side as his innings was a touch of class.
2) Dinesh Karthik :
The wicketkeeper batsman has been in good form this season, and continued his form as he scored a quickfire 40 and resurrected Gujarat’s innings after they had lost 3 wickets. Karthik stitched a good partnership with Aaron Finch and helped Gujarat to a good total. Karthik did not manage to make it to the Champions Trophy squad but is on standby and should continue his good form if he wishes to make it to the squad should someone suffer an injury.
3) Shreyas Iyer :
The Mumbaikar led his team to a victory almost single handedly as he scored a brilliant 96. Iyer had not played a substantial knock this season so far, but played a scintillating knock here as he managed to salvage some pride for his side. The youngster was unfortunate to miss out on his century but would be happy to see his team winning the game. If he manages to play such innings’ on a consistent basis, he would get into the Indian team really soon.
1) Suresh Raina :
The Gujarat Lions captain has been in good form this season, but did not manage to get a big score in this game as he was bowled by Pat Cummins for just 6. Raina expressed his disappointment at not being selected in the Champions Trophy squad, but did little to justify his disappointment as he could not do much with the bat. Captaincy wise he failed to contain Shreyas Iyer with his bowling changes, and lost the game as a result.
2) Sanju Samson :
The Kerala batsman too has been brilliant in the tournament, but faltered in a big chase as he got out for just 10. Samson has a bright future, but he needs to deliver on the big stage more often to be in the reckoning of the selectors. If he does that, he would surely get into the Indian side in the coming years. He has the potential, but just needs to deliver more consistently in the other domestic tournaments.
3) James Faulkner :
The experienced Aussie gave away 21 runs in his 3rd over, which allowed the Delhi Daredevils to come back into the game. Faulkner was expected to fill the void created by the absence of Dwayne Bravo, but has faltered and Gujarat are out of the tournament as a result. Faulkner needs to pull up his socks as he has not been selected in the Australian Champions Trophy squad as well. He is an extremely talented cricketer and needs to find his best form soon.
