A buoyant Kolkata Knight Riders, after their comprehensive victory against Royal challengers Bangalore in the previous match, will be aiming for a top two finish in the league stage as they take on an inconsistent Kings XI Punjab side at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday.
KKR did an outstanding job in the previous match against RCB as they bounced back from their run of two consecutive defeats to produce a spectacular performance in Bengaluru on Sunday. They are now placed at second on the points table with 16 points to their name in 12 matches and are pretty high on confidence as they will be going into the next match on the back of a victory. The Kings XI Punjab side on the other hand, is coming into this match on the back of a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of the Gujarat Lions and will be fighting hard for a play-off spot.
Kings XI Punjab Team News
KXIP were unfortunate to end up on the losing side despite a superb century from Hashim Amla. It was a belter of a wicket and the bowlers from both the sides had a nightmare. However, the team that batted better, the Gujarat Lions, ran away with the match as even a score of 189 runs didn’t prove enough to defend. The KXIP are lacking a third seamer to carry on the good work done by Sandeep and Mohit Sharma. Both Ishant Sharma and T Natarajan, so far, have been unable to live up to the expectations. Axar Patel had an off-day in the previous match with the ball. The only batsman that has shown form other than Hashim Amla is Shaun Marsh. None of the other batsmen have been consistent enough. Maxwell has produced those late cameos down the order but we are yet to witness anything substantial from him. Patel has also contributed well with the bat lower down the order. The only concern has been Saha’s form with the bat. The team otherwise looks in good health if they solve their third seam bowler problem and consistency issues.
Kolkata Knight Riders Team News
All their players in Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Sunil Narine, Nathan Coulter-Nile and others have been in a rich vein of form. Narine has been a revelation at the top of the order in the absence of Chris Lynn and has given them a lot of good starts in the previous matches. And now with the return of Lynn, Narine went one step further to score his first T20 half-century and also the joint fastest fifty in IPL history. Lynn also announced his return with another quick fire fifty. Moreover, Narine has been superb with his bowling also as he has kept things tight in the middle overs. Gambhir has been the mainstay of KKR’s batting line up in the entire tournament so far and will be looking to continue the good work. Robin Uthappa also has been explosive batting at No.3 and has piled up heaps of runs as well. He sat out of the past couple of matches with a niggle and is expected to return in the next match. And Kolkata’s pace battery has also looked sharp with all of Umesh Yadav, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Chris Woakes being in good form. Their spinners in Narine, Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav have also done a decent job. All in all, the side looks well balanced and good to register another comprehensive victory against KXIP.
Top Fantasy Batsman- Chris Lynn
— Brisbane Heat (@HeatBBL) May 7, 2017
‘Lynnsanity’ is back once again to make us insane! He smashed a 50 off just 22 balls on his return from injury and will be looking to make up for his absence with some more explosive innings in the upcoming matches. So, whatever you do, don’t keep this man out of your side.
Top Fantasy Bowler- Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep has the unusual knack of picking wickets more often than not. Moreover, whenever he picks up wickets, it is always in clusters of two or more. So, he has the potential and gives you the assurance for some big points.
Top Fantasy All-Rounder- Axar Patel
Patel might have had an off-day in the previous match. However, don’t make the mistake of keeping him out of this match as he is KXIP’s go-to man in times of crisis. Expect him to star both with the bat and ball in this match.
