He became the third batsman after Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli to hit more than one hundred in a single edition of the Indian Premier League.

The Proteas batsman hit some classy shots and stitched a century stand with Shaun Marsh to take Punjab out of the troubled waters. He hit 8 fours and 5 sixes in his impressive knock of 104 off just 60 balls which helped Punjab post a target of 190 on the board.

All the performances that he has given points to a single common question – Is he an underrated IPL Player?

The answer seems to be yes. Whenever we talk about the IPL or the T20 format, the names of batsmen like Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch come to the mind. This is the general perception which has shaped into our minds that this format belongs to the pinch hittters. But this seems to be an overrated fact as batsmen with textbook technique also have been mighty successful in the format as Virat Kohli who is known for his textbook shots showed in the last edition by hitting 4 hundreds and amassing more than 900 runs.

Amla who is not considered to be  the greatest of the hitters, has been instrumental in the IPL and has redefined the beauty of the T20 format with his shots full of finesse and class written all over them amidst all the brutal slogging. Till now, he has scored 420 runs for Punjab in 10 matches at an average of 60.00 and strike rate of 145.83 and is the leading run scorer for the Mohali outfit. He is placed third on the list of highest run getters. He has only played 16 matches till now in the IPL and has surely proven why he is considered such a class player.

He has shown that it is not necessary to play  unconventional shots to succeed in the T20 format. He is not the strongest of them all and not the power packed hitter as the shortest format usually demands but he has surely scored some big runs like today where he hit the century striking at 173.33.

The fans need to go behind the sturdy hitters of the game applying fancy shots and slogs to accumulate runs to conventional players like Amla who needs to be acknowledged in the IPL where he has surely made a great impact by hitting his second century of the season today.
