Is Gautam Gambhir ready for Champions Trophy inclusion?

Gautam Gambir in action

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has been a true leader for the franchise and has been in great form lately. Having led the side to two IPL titles, he is probably on course to lead them to a third one, as KKR are strong contenders to win the title. But is a Champions Trophy inclusion on the cards for him? Let’s take a look!

Well, going by the kind of form he is in, he surely looks ready to make the cut in the Indian ODI and T20 squad. He has dominated world class international bowlers of various franchises in the IPL and the fact that Shikhar Dhawan has not been up to the mark in ODIs and T20s, Gambhir’s inclusion can remove one of India’s major concerning points.

A Strong Opening Partnership

To defend their Champions Trophy title, India would need a strong and tenacious opening partnership to perform in the English conditions. KL Rahul is out of the IPL due to an injury to his left shoulder but is expected to be available for the Champions Trophy. Gambhir has a lot of experience playing in England as he was the leading run scorer in the test series against England in 2008.

He has been performing well domestically regularly and is eagerly waiting a first team call up. Gambhir was selected for national duty in the test series against New Zealand due to injury to KL Rahul but was dropped after that.

Conclusion

It would be interesting to see if the south paw, who is known for his grit and determination can make another comeback. The selectors should really give him a chance considering the form and consistency he has shown.

We have spoken about Gambhir’s case for the Champions Trophy, but about Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni?
