WWE Smackdown: The best and worst moments feat. Kevin Owens, Jinder Mahal

Randy Orton at WWE Smackdown Event

WWE Smackdown had a lot of work to do – first introducing the new United States Champion Chris Jericho, and later dealing with the fall out of Payback, where Jinder Mahal interfered in Randy Orton’s match.

In this write up we rate each segment between +5 to -5.

1. Shane McMahon introduces Chris Jericho: +2

Shane McMahon introduced Jericho to the Smackdown crowd and announced that he would be defending his title against Kevin Owens. AJ Styles came out to let his intentions to win the title at Backlash be known. Kevin Owens also came out warning Jericho that he will take back the United States title.

2. Jinder Mahal vs Sami Zayn: +2

In the beginning of the match Sami was dominating but Jinder took advantage of the distraction by the Singh brothers, and laid into Sami. Jinder was largely supported by the Singh brothers and with continuous distraction Sami lost the match as he was taken out by the Dream Street of Jinder.

3. Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English: +1

Tye Dillinger beat Aiden English in a short match. Aiden English is really good with his words though and deserves a push.

4. Natalya and Carmella vs Naomi and Charlotte: -2

Charlotte was taken out before the match started turning it into a handicap match. After Naomi fought for a long time alone, Charlotte came out to take part in the match.
The number game was too much for them however with Tamina and Ellsworth provided a distraction, helping Carmella pick up the win over Naomi.
Becky came out to save Naomi and Charlotte from the beat down. She is obviously against the Welcoming Committee.

5. Sin Cara vs Dolph Ziggler: +1

Sin Cara made his first ring appearance since being drafted to Smackdown. Dolph defeated him with a Superkick after a few minutes. Sin Cara looked impressive in the match but was unable to win.

6. Chris Jericho [c] vs Kevin Owens [WWE United States Title]: +5

Chris started going straight for the injured hand of Kevin Owens. Owens hit Jericho with a rolling senton outside the ring against the barrier, and tried another one on the inside but missed and was hit with a Lionsault for a near fall. Owens broke out from the Walls of Jericho twice and hot Jericho with a Superkick followed by a DDT on the outside. He hit Jericho with another Superkick inside the ring. Kevin Owens won the United States Title with a Popup Powerbomb as Jericho lost the title.
After the match was over Owens hit him with another Popup Powerbomb and walked out.
He returned again to attack Jericho with a chair. This will put Jericho out of action for a while at least.

This Smackdown was a good one and had a +9 rating with the show being the a good one with the Women’s match being the worst part.
