Champions League 2017: Real vs Atletico Madrid Player Ratings

Ronaldo celebrating a goal

Real Madrid overwhelmed Atletico Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final. Cristiano Ronaldo scored yet another hattrick for the Los Blancos and are now expected to qualify for the final for the second time in a row, breaking Atletico hearts once more in the process. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a thumping header, and added two more in the second half to virtually eliminate Atletico from the competition.

Here we present the player ratings from the game :

1) Keylor Navas : 7

Did not have much to do as Atletico struggled to create opportunites, but did deny Gameiro when he looked to round him. Was confident in dealing with set pieces as well, overall a good game.

2) Dani Carvajal : 8

The Spaniard continues to have a brilliant season and had a really good first half, before going off injured at half time. Carvajal has been a real star for Madrid this season and has become indespensable to their side. Zinedine Zidane would hope that his injury would not be a serious one and he would recover in time for the fag end of the season.

3) Sergio Ramos : 7

Was surprisingly disciplined and did not put a foot wrong. The Spaniard did not give an inch to Griezmann and Gameiro and was an absolute rock at the back.

4) Raphael Varane : 8

The Frenchman was an absolute rock at the back for Real Madrid and made a few vital interceptions and clearances to deny Greizmann and Gameiro. He also came close to scoring a goal but was denied by wonderful save from Oblak.

5) Marcelo : 8

The Brazilian continues to grow in stature and had another good game in defence as well as attack. Is right there amongst the very best full backs in the world.

6) Casemiro : 8

Battered, bruised and brilliant. The Brazilian shielded his back four superbly and cut out a number of attacks. Superb.

7) Toni Kroos : 7

As usual his dead ball delivery was superb and he held the game by the scruff of the neck. Is a vital cog in Zidane’s team.

8) Luka Modric : 8

The Crotian maestro had another superb game as he used his guile and technique to guide past defenders at will. Is a real magician and is one of the best in the world.

9) Isco : 7

Was given a free role behind Ronaldo and Benzema and saw a lot of the ball, without any major final product. But dominated the midfield and continued his recent good form.

10) Karim Benzema : 7

Missed a number of brilliant chances and was not clinical in front of goal. Showed great strength for Ronaldo’s second goal though.

11) Cristiano Ronaldo : 10

Scored another sensational hattrick to shut his critics up. Was clinical in front of goal and has become an excellent box player in recent years. Absolutely sensational once more.

Asensio : 8

Nacho : 7

Vazquez : 7
