The capital city of Spain will witness non-stop football action for the next ten days. The Champions League Madrid Derby will take place tonight to see which club will feature in Cardiff.
Follow Your Sport takes a look at the best combined eleven that might feature in the Champions League Madrid Derby.
The 24 year old shot stopper has been undoubtedly the biggest part of the Rojiblancos defence. He commands his area well and is almost impregnable at times. The Slovenian custodian has an impressive 6 clean sheets from the 9 Champions League appearances so far. Keylor Navas for all his heroics in the El Classico has been inconsistent this season and Oblak wins the battle of the two shot stoppers.
The Brazilian sideback has been the MVP for Real Madrid this season. He is an expansive full back not afraid of taking any risks. Despite being out of position at times, Marcelo has not picked up a single booking in the Champions League so far. Marcelo is the most effective defender going forward and aiding attacks. The defender has created 16 chances in only 8 Champions League appearances so far this season and is arguably the best left back in the world at the moment.
The Uruguayan captain has been a mainstay in Rojiblancos defence for the past few seasons. The seasoned veteran is at the peak of his powers and is expected to lead this star studded line up. He is also constant threat during set pieces.
The Spaniard’s defensive powers are possibly equal to Savic or Gimenez but his leadership abilities and knack of getting vital goals gives him the upper hand. In his 8 appearances in the Champions league, he has scored a goal and created 4 chances for his teammates. That is an excellent return for a Centre Back.
Carvajal has been excellent this season but we have gone for the experienced Juanfran, considering the team balance. The more conservative full back is solid as a defender compared to Caravajal. He gets forward regularly to put in some decent crosses and will be an important asset while defending set pieces.
Modric is one of the most versatile midfielders in Europe at the moment. He can play anywhere in the midfield and he will take up the role of anchor in our three man midfield. The Croatian midfielder has a pass accuracy of 88 % in 8 appearances in Champions league so far and has created 12 chances.
The German World cup winner is hitting his strides in the White jersey. He has been in good form throughout this season and has an impeccable pass accuracy of 92 %. He can also chip in with goals from midfield and is a valuable addition to this team.
Koke is one of the most underrated midfielder across Europe. He is not the quickest in the centre of the park but is definitely the most technically gifted midfielder around. He has created a whopping 22 chances in the Champions League so far and has been instrumental in Atletico reaching the final four.
Isco has been impressive everytime he has donned the classic white jersey this season. Curiously Zidane has been reluctant to give the Spaniard an extended run in the first team. But on the basis of form, he walks into our eleven to play on the left wing. He is always eager to put in the defensive shift when required and can help transforming this formation into a 4-4-2 as and when required. In his limited chances so far, the Spaniard has an impressive passing accuracy of 91 % and created over 35 chances in the league so far.
Griezmann is the hottest property on transfer market this season. The last year’s Ballon d’or nominee has continued his good form this season. He has scored 5 goals and created 21 chances in the tournament so far. A Champions league win to cap off his tenure at the Vicente Calderon will be the forwards top priority.
Ronaldo is supposedly in decline but the Portugal captain is the highest scorer for his team in league as well as Europe. He carried his team against Bayern Munich and we expect the superstar to deliver for this team as well.
