After the loss against the Rising Pune Supergiant, Mumbai Indians have lost their way a bit. Gujarat Lions on the other hand, are gaining momentum after beating the power packed Royal Challengers Bangalore side comprehensively. Both the teams will come hard against each other as they will face off at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on Saturday (29th April).
MUMBAI INDIANS TEAM NEWS
With six wins out of eight matches, Mumbai are comfortably positioned at the 2nd place on the points table. Except for the last game, all the Mumbai Indian players have been performing well. Also captain Rohit Sharma has found some form with the bat scoring 58 of 39 balls. Mitchell McClanaghan will be the key with the ball along with Mitchell Johnson who has replaced the T20 specialist Lasith Malinga in the squad. It will be interesting to see if Mumbai picks Johnson ahead of Malinga once again.
Nitish Rana has been in the form of his life. Even after not performing well in the last two games, he will be high on confidence as he smacked a match winning 53 off 36 balls the last time these two teams faced each other.
GUJARAT LIONS TEAM NEWS
Gujarat Lions on the other hand, are gaining momentum with two straight wins over two of the best sides. With just six games left for them, they will have to win almost every game to get a place in the play offs. Suresh Raina is in tremendous form and he has been very well backed up by the power hitting of Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch. Jadeja adds depth in the bowing department in the middle overs. The inclusion of Irfan Pathan replacing Bravo in the squad will be justified if he gets a chance to play in this game. Gujarat Lions bowling looks well settled now with Nathu Singh and Basil Thampi opening the bowling and Andrew Tye coming in as the first change.
Top Batsmen: – Suresh Raina (Fantasy Points-451)
— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 28, 2017
Suresh Raina is one of the leading run getters in this year’s IPL with 309 runs at an average of 61.80. His strike rate is as always a phenomenal 141.74. Being the captain of the team, he is taking responsibility onto himself to take his team past the finish line. His innings in the last game against RCB of 34 off 30 balls proves that he is not willing to throw his wicket away easily.
Top Bowler: – Andrew Tye ( Fantasy Points- 305)
Andrew Tye has been the go to man for Suresh Raina when he needs wickets. He is in the 2nd place for the Purple cap race with 12 wickets to his name at an average of 11 and economy of 6.60. He has been really instrumental at the death with his slower deliveries to deceive the batsmen and curb the scoring rate.
Top All-Rounder: – Hardik Pandya (Fantasy Points- 288)
— hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) April 24, 2017
The hard hitting all-rounder has been in good touch with both the bat and ball. His ability to hit massive sixes down at the death has helped Mumbai Indians a fortune. His recent form is the reason why Mumbai Indians have faith in chasing as many runs as they have in the final five overs.
Top Punt Player:- Nitish Rana (Fantasy Points-391)
Nitish Rana has been a find for Mumbai this season. Playing in the squad in the place of experienced Ambati Rayudu, he has been filling up his shoes quite well. Even after failures the last two games, he will be high on confidence, looking to carry on from his previous performance against the Lions.
