A part-time wicketkeeper pulling off three stumpings in a T20 innings is not an ordinary feat. However, Robin Uthappa did the exceptional and became the talking point in Pune’s innings after putting up a splendid show behind the stumps.
Uthappa became the second keeper after MS Dhoni (twice) to effect three stumpings in a T20 innings. Keeping wickets to KKR spinners Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav, the Karnataka lad stumped Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary, helping KKR restrict RPS to a par-total.

It started with Narine foxing Rahane and Uthappa was quick enough to whip off the bails. Though he seemed slow in case of earlier stumping appeals, Rahane did not have good fortune as Uthappa almost pulled off a Dhoni-esque stumping.
The 18th over of the innings saw Gautam Gambhir take a bold decision by handing the ball to Kuldeep Yadav. The chinaman who repeatedly kept the batsmen guessing with his deceptive googlies throughout the innings, duped MSD with a wrong one which the former Indian skipper failed to read. Two balls later, it was in-form Manoj Tiwary’s turn to be victimised by Uthappa’s swift gloveswork. Another googly, and again an instance of the batsmen getting bamboozled.
A look at Uthappa’s triple stumping.
Wicket-keeper Uthappa was in prime form with his gloves. Three stumpings, all lightning quick
It remains to be seen Uthappa can replicate the same form with the willow in KKR’s chase.
