Kings XI Punjab defeated Gujarat Lions by 26 runs as Gujarat's batting line up failed to chase a target of 189. The Punjab bowlers chipped away wickets at regular intervals and were quite economical too as they did not give away easy runs and maintained the pressure on the Gujarat Batsman.
Here are the Heroes and Zeroes from the match:
Amla carried off from where he left in the last match against MI where he scored a ton. He looked in great touch and scored all around the park. At one point of time it looked like he is on his way to yet another century in this IPL but he was out caught and bowled to Shubham Agarwal after contributing 65 off 40 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. His effoert at the beginning enabled Punjab to reach 188 in 20 overs.
Hashim Amla now owns the Orange Cap… leading run scorer #IPL who said he can't play T20?????

The Gujarat Lions wicket keeper batsman found his groove and was the only batsman who was there on the crease and enabled Gujarat fans to have some hope in the run chase. Suresh Raina was the only other scorer second to him with a score of 32 off 24 balls. Karthik scored an unbeaten 58 off 44 balls which included 6 fours, but his effort couldn't take Gujarat across the line.
The right arm off-break bowler was the pick of the bowlers for Maxwell as he bowled economically while taking 2 wickets. He finished off with figures of 4-0-24-2 which proved to be very crucial for Punjab's victory. He took the wickets of Jadeja and Akashdeep Nath on consecutive deliveries and was the most economical of the Punjab bowlers.
The West Indian batsman is being given regular chances by the Gujarat team management but he has still been unable to perform significantly. He is proving to be quite a liability despite the calibre he certainly possesess. He has been out for single digit scores and was also out for 4 runs in today's match. He will soon have to start contributing as Gujarat Lions are sitting at the bottom of the table.
The Gujarat opener failed to perform against Punjab as he was out leg before wicket by Sandeep Sharma for 6 runs. He was phenomenal in the previous matches for Gujarat but when the team has to chase a target of 189, a good start by the openers is a must. A single inning cannot lay off a player of his stature as he will surely bounce back in the subsequent games.
The Aussie batsman has got starts in some matches but he has been unable to convert the starts into big scores. As the other opener, he too was expected to give Lions the start they were hoping for but he was out for 13 runs off 12 balls as the whole burden of the chase shifted to the Gujarat middle order which failed to chase the target of 189.
