Europa League: Man United vs Anderlecht – Team news, Lineups and TV Guide

Manchester United will be back in action against Anderlecht in the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals. Jose Mourinho's side are coming on the back of an impressive win over Chelsea while the visitors will have one eye on their upcoming league match in the weekend against Club Brugge. The match promises to be an enticing contest, given that the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw and both sides still very much in contention for a place in semi-finals.

Manchester United in the home stretch

Mourinho’s side were having a below par campaign in Premier League this season. Despite going on a record unbeaten run, the Red Devils failed to convince most people. It all changed this weekend, as the Portuguese brilliantly masterminded the fall of his former club Chelsea at Old Trafford. Mourinho’s men look to have found form for the final phase of the season and it will be ominous signs for the Belgian champions.

Manchester United dominated the first leg from start to finish but failed to convert many of the chances and were made to pay the price, conceding an equaliser in the 86th minute. Mourinho has prioritised this competition as it will assure him a place in the Champions League to go along with his second silverware for the Reds. Anderlecht have been in good form on the road in Europe this season, losing only once out of 7 games.

Manchester United cannot afford to be complacent and will have to improve on their sloppy finishing from the first leg. Going by the evidence of the first leg, it is highly unlikely that their campaign in Europe will end against this Belgian side.

United have lost a few players to injury throughout the course of this season but have coped well so far. The big news is the return of Rooney from his ankle injury but it is highly unlikely that the former England captain will be in the starting XI. Jones, Mata and Smalling are sidelined due to injuries. The big man from Sweden will be starting the game after taking a reduced role in the weekend win against Chelsea.

Anderlecht look to upset the odds

The Belgian champions recorded an impressive away win this weekend in the Belgian Pro league and will be looking to capitalise on the momentum to upset Jose Mourinho’s side. Dendoncker’s 86th-minute goal in the first leg has kept them alive in this tie and it will be a significant task to find the back of the net in Old Trafford.

They had less than 36 % possession in the first leg and will once again have to do a lot of work off the ball. They will have to take the intiative in this game as a goalless draw will see Man United go through on away goals. Weiler sounded less optimistic about their chances in tomorrow’s game but they will hope to recreate first leg heroics.

Anderlecht Team News

Weiler will have a huge dilemma in his mind. The weekend clash against Club Brugge will be considered important among local fans and it will be huge task for his team to play two full matches in the space of three days. There is no major injury setback for the Belgians and the likes of Teodorczyk and Tielemans will be crucial for their hopes.

Expected Lineup

Manchester United XI (4-2-3-1): Romero, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Shaw, Carrick, Fellaini, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Young, Ibrahimovic.

Anderlecht XI (4-2-3-1): Ruben; Appiah, Kara, Spajic, Acheampong; Tielemans, Dendoncker; Chipciu, Stanciu, Bruno; Teodorczyk.

Player to Watch out for

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been phenomenal for the Red Devils in his first season in England. Should Manchester United progress to Europa league final, Zlatan will get to play in his home country, in the city where his statue is being erected. There is no better motivation and a well rested Zlatan could spell danger for the Belgians.

Zlatan isn't even human 😎💪🏼 #MUFC
