David Villa turns back the clock as he scores from FIFTY yards out

David Villa is a legend. Agreed. He has won everything there is to win as a footballer. Agreed. He was a phenomenally good striker in his prime. Agreed. But he is surely past his prime, isn't he? You may need to reconsider that last statement.

Playing for New York City FC against Philadelphia Union, he scored a goal which would be right up there amongst the goal of the season contenders. Villa scored a sublime half-volley from near the half way line, embarrassing the Union goalkeeper Andre Blake in the process. A 50-yard half-volley. Can you believe it? He's surely still got it. Here is the video of the goal:

This isn't the first time David Villa has attempted a shot from that far out. He tried to do the same last year but his attempt hit the crossbar. In the post match interview, Villa said that he was too tired to run, so he attempted the shot from the half way line. Ridiculous skill.

The goal naturally sent Twitter into a frenzy and for those watching outside the United States, it was a bit too much to take so early in the morning.
