Gujarat Lions were beaten badly in their last game at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. A loss by 9 wickets to Hyderabad was outrageous as they lost the previous match by 10 wickets to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Gujarat Lions will be facing Rising Pune Supergaint in their next match in Rajkot. Gujarat are in desperate need to open their account of wins and would want to start by beating RPS.
Here is the probable XI of Gujarat Lions that will be up against RPS:
Top Order: Brendon McCullum, Jason Roy, Suresh Raina
All three batsmen have performed good in the previous match versus KKR while Skipper Raina and MucCullum disappointed during the match against SRH. Jason Roy scored a good 31. Seeing the form and reputation of the top three, it's unlikely that they will change their top 3.
Middle order: Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Smith
Aaron Finch failed miserably in the last two matches and hence its most likely that he could be replaced with James Faulkner as they need a strong bowling attack. Wicket-keeper batsmen, Dinesh Karthik performed exceptionally well against KKR and SRH where he anchored the Gujarat innings. He would be expected to continue his form further. Dwayne Smith provides depth in the batting order and could be handy towards the end of the innings.
All-rounders: James Faulkner, Ravindra Jadeja
The return of Ravindra Jadeja into the Gujarat side is a heavy boost to the team. He can score runs quickly and do magic with the ball as well. He has performed well in the domestic season and would like to carry his form forward for the franchise. James Faulkner could replace Aronn Finch as Faulkner could help in with the ball as well as with the bat.
Pacers: Basil Thampi, Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni
The bowling department has been the worst for the Gujarat Lions in the last two matches as they managed to pick only one wicket. The experienced Praveen Kumar and youngsters Dhawal Kulkarni and Basil Thampi needs to do something phenomenal to turn the fortunes of the Lions. Basil Thampi could be given an additional chance in the game.
Spinner: Shivil Kaushik
Chinaman Shivil Kaushik gave 40 runs against KKR and 29 against SRH in his allotted quota of 4 overs each game and the sad part is that he has been wicket less. He needs to perform well against RPS to book his seat for the further games in the tournament.
