Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1 draw in the hugely important La Liga encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu. Pepe scored the opening goal for Real Madrid from a sumptuous Toni Kroos free kick, but star forward Antoine Griezmann equalised in the 85th minute after he rounded Keylor Navas. The draw secured Atletico manager Diego Simeone's impressive record against Real Madrid. Simeone is the most successful Atletico manager against Real Madrid as he has won 4 games against their city rivals.
While Simeone has done exceptionally well against Real Madrid, he has also encountered a few heartbreaking losses against them. Simeone has lost two Champions League Finals against Real and he would be extremely willing to swap his remaining wins for the two finals if he would be given the opportunity.

Real Madrid have failed to get the better of their city rivals for quite some time now and have only won 2 of their last 12 games against Simeone's side. They have lost 5 games, whereas 5 have been drawn. This win only extends Simeone's impressive record at the Bernabeu as he is unbeaten in the last 4 games at the venue. But Simeone admittedly does care more about the Champions League which has eluded him so far. Simeone himself considered his future after the loss in Milan.
"For me it was like a death, and every death needs to be mourned," was what he said after the heartbreaking loss.
Simeone deserves a lot of credit for his work as he has transformed Atletico from a second class team to genuine Champions League title contenders.Atletico failed to win a single game against Real Madrid from 1999-2013 and have had the better of their city rivals since, which is no mean feat, and Simeone deserves maximum credit for it.
