Younis Khan’s Test Career in Numbers

Pakistan batting mainstay Younis Khan has announced that he will retire from International cricket at the end of test series against West Indies. Having already retired from the limited-over formats of the game, the series will be his last in International cricket.

"I will be retiring from international cricket after the West Indies series with my head held high," the former national team captain told a press conference in Karachi.

"I think this is the right time as every sportsman has to take this decision in his career," he was quoted as saying.

Test captain Misbah has already announced that the series against West Indies will be the last one of his career and the announcement by Younis at such an important juncture means there will be a big void left to be filled.

Let us have a look at Younis Khan’s career in numbers

 – With 9977 runs in 115 tests at an average of 53.06, Younis is Pakistan’s highest run-getter in the history of Pakistan. With another 23 in the coming series, he might well end up as the first Pakistani player to cross 10,000 runs in test cricket.

– Younis the first cricketer to score six centuries in the fourth innings of a test match.

– 313 by Younis against Sri Lanka in Karachi is the third highest test score in an innings by a Pakistani batsman after Hanif Mohammed’s 337 and Inzamam-ul Haq’s 329.

– Younis is the only Pakistani batsman to score hundred against all nine test-playing nations.

– His 23 away centuries are the most scored by a Pakistani in away matches.

– 129 catches by Younis is maximum by a Pakistani fielder.

– Younis was the only batsman to have an average of more than 50 in all the four innings of a test match. (Currently, he averages around 47 in third innings.)

– Younis Khan is only the second batsman to score three consecutive test hundreds against Australia. Herbert Sutcliffe is the only other player to do so.
